Weekend Update

Too hot for the stage!

Amazingly, we got through all three events last weekend unscathed!  Everything went really well, actually.  Each venue and show was different, and I think we learned a lot from each experience.  A big thank you to all the venues and folks involved…and especially to Witness to the Apotheosis, who allowed us to fire-eat while they played one of their songs.  We enjoy fire-eating as a matter of course, but doing it while backed up with live music makes it feel particularly cool.

In other news, Thimblerig Circus will be performing at Dragon*Con!  We are THRILLED about this opportunity, which will apparently not happen just once, but twice!  We will be at the Yellow Ribbon Ball Thursday night, and then will appear again at the Time-Traveler’s Ball Sunday night.  Come out, and bring your camera.  I want every single one of these shows photographed and tagged on our Facebook, just to prove we were there.

Lastly, look for details about our Very Special Birthday Show coming up on September 25th.  Imagine:  Chainsaws and cake.  More soon!

A Weekend of Extremes

The weekend of the 20th through the 22nd is going be a busy one for Thimblerig Circus.  We will be performing Friday the 20th at a really cool art opening at the Jill Celeste Gallery, which is also the home of a fantastic wine bar!  Note that Thimblerig Circus did not necessarily decide to work this gig solely based on the fact that there is a wine bar.  Not solely.  The opening is from 7pm to 10pm, and looks to host some very cool artists!  Come and hang out with us…see how many glasses of wine we can handle before we set ourselves on fire.  A good show is pretty much guaranteed.  Info here.

The very next night (Saturday the 21st) we will be performing at Lenny’s Bar with the Extraordinary Contraptions!  The show starts at 9pm, though if Lenny’s holds true to form this might mean anywhere from 10 to 11:30pm.  The ultimate dive bar, Lenny’s is something everyone should experience in Atlanta at least once.  No wine to affect the show here…just can after (delicious?) can of PBR.  Info here!

As a cool side-note, Thimblerig Circus was asked to perform again for the kids at Circus Camp this past Thursday and it was awesome all over again!  Thank you guys for letting us come play.  We look forward to coming back next year!

I’m excited to see how this unfolds.

Circus Camp!

We have had such a great week!  One week ago today Zoloft and I performed for the kids at Circus Camp at the northern Dunwoody campus, and today we had the opportunity to play for the Dacula campus as well!  Thanks to everyone over at Circus Camp for being such good hosts, and for all the campers specifically for being such a great audience!  We got some awesome video and a few very good photos of all this stuff, so look for that in the coming week…just as soon as I can find the right cable.

We already have a busy August shaping up.  Dates to catch Thimblerig Circus in the near future include:

  • A fundraiser for the Eyedrum Art Gallery on August 7th
  • Playing as the guest performer with Improv Monster at Relapse Theatre on August 12th

Other possibilities are brewing, but we will wait for a while on those.  Look for dates to pop up in the sidebar!

Other items of note…Thimblerig Circus will be working with the incredibly talented artist Jason Thomas to create some T-shirts and other clearly necessary accouterments.  Hopefully we will all be sporting these new status symbols soon!

Hopefully we will be seeing you all soon!

See the Gyrasticus!

See the Gyrasticus!

Man, did we have a busy week last week! Everything went so incredibly well!  I hope everyone had as much fun at the Gyrasticus event as we did…what an awesome crowd that was.  Thanks to everyone that was involved…you all did a fantastic job!

Next up on the Thimblerig docket:  Circus Camp!  Thimblerig Circus will be performing Thursday 8th and 15th for the campers, and we are really looking forward to it.  Circus Camp is really cool organization, and if you’ve never heard of them you should check them out here.

That’s all for now!  Have a great Fourth of July everybody!

Lots of news!

Hello everyone!  I have so much to tell you!  We have had a great month so far, and already have shows planned through the end of it!  First of all, I have spent some time on the website…and though I am learning really slowly how to make stuff work around here, I have successfully updated the photos page through the use of a great Flickr tie-in program.  Check out the photos!  I’ll be working on this some more over the next few days to pertify it.

Next, shows you should see!  In chronological order, these would be:
June 19 and 20 ~ STEAMfest

We are performing twice Saturday  at 2:30 and again at 5:00…and then twice Sunday at 1:00 and then again at 3:30.  All of these are main-stage shows, so come check it out!  We will be performing some of our most rarely-exhibited material in new and exciting ways…definitely not a show to be missed!  Steamfest is a great initiation for those of you who are not yet well-schooled in the subtleties of the Steampunk movement.  Test your toes in these nerdy waters before you swim in the deep end of Dragon*Con.

Next up, we will be performing at the premier of a cool new cartoon by artist Jason Thomas.  From the press release:

Cradle Me, Sky Premiere!

Cradle Me, Sky is a weekly animated science-fiction adventure about the weirdness of space, unwanted friendship, and desperate robots. It premieres at cradlemesky.com at the end of June, right on my birthday! How do you celebrate such an occasion?

Throw a Launch Party, of course!

Cradle Me, Sky begins on Friday, June 25th at The Alcove gallery in Decatur from 6:00 to 11:00. We will be showing the first three serials, so you’ll get to see it before the rest of the internet! You’ll be able to say you were there and witnessed it from the very beginning!

There will be free beer, food, and best of all, the astounding Thimblerig Circus will be performing for your amazement! Baskov the Intoxicated Bear will not be there of course, but the surviving circus troupe will be doing their stuff with nails, fire, and who-knows-what-else!

Limited Edition Launch Party Space Kits
We are putting together Space Kits only available at this event! They will be for sale at the front of the gallery for $25 and contain the first Cradle Me Sky t-shirt, as well as a trove of items only available at this Launch Party. Be sure to pick one up early, we’re not making too many of these, and they will go fast.
Come out to show your support and to raise a glass with me to the start of a very long journey.
Last but not least, you should come out in support of the Atlanta Beltline Project!  We will be performing in celebration of this delightful idea.  The poster says it all:
More on all these as the events approach.  Hope to see all of you in the near future!
Love!

Long Time No Post

Hello everyone! I’m sorry I have neglected the website for so long. Thimblerig Circus has been far busier than we could have imagined! We have been focusing on our facebook page as a way to get information out…it’s just so easy! But there are things we want to share that only a website can really facilitate easily, so over the next weekor two I hope to be working on the space a lot. Turn it from being our shed out back to more of a home. Maybe like a second home. One we stay at some of the year but always keep up so we can rent it out in the off-season.

Hope to see you all soon!

Thanks everyone!

Though it comes late, we would like to thank everyone who helped make our Valentines Day Show such a success for us! Specifically, thanks to Robert, Lucas, Jennifer, David, Jillian, and Judah. Your spectacular talents made the show not only possible, but amazing! Thimblerig hopes that one day we can return the favor to you all!

We also appreciate everyone who came out to see the show.  We got a lot of great feedback, and will be using a lot of the ideas that we’ve heard to improve the show!  If you saw the show and have (upon reflection) thought of anything else that we could do to make the show more (insert positive adjective) we would love to hear it!  Send it to us at ThimblerigCircus@yahoo.com

More timely thanks to Woodland Elementary who hosted Thimblerig as a part of their fund raiser for Haiti tonight. We had a blast teaching juggling and putting a mustache on anyone that would stand still long enough. We truly enjoyed being a part, and look forward to working with you guys again sometime soon!

Valentines Day Poster!

Thanks to the crafty work of Geoffrey Brown, we have a delightful poster with which to spread the word about our upcoming Valentines Day show!  Bask in it’s online glory, but also keep careful watch…these fancy fliers will soon be donning the walls of all the fanciest of businesses and trendiest of coffeehouses.  Collectors items, every one!

We are becoming ever more excited about the show.  We have something new and wonderful in the works!  Though several new bits will be revealed onstage this Valentine’s, the new finale will knock your collected socks off.

Get your tickets now!  A mere ten dollars a person is a steal when what you are really buying is a memory you and your loved one can cherish forever.  And it’s even better for you lonely suckers out there, seeing as how you didn’t have to buy anyone dinner beforehand.

Thimblerig Strikes Again!

We have had the pleasure of inflicting our peculiar entertainment stylings on the denizens of the Winnwood Retirement Community in Marietta, Georgia. Thanks for having us out, guys! We had a really great time performing two short shows. Having them back-to-back was really a great boon for us…we could immediately assess how the first show went and make changes as necessary. We should get in with a Renaissance Festival or similar, where we could have four or five shows a day. We would refine the show so quickly!

We are excited about the Valentines Day show, and you should be too. We are going to be unveiling some brand new acts, one of which I am beyond thrilled about. We are also going to be bringing some friends with us to join in the fun! Talented musicians, dancers, magicians, and other such folk will be helping us celebrate (and/or destroy) the spirit of Valentines Day. Reserve your night on Friday Feb. 12, and your Sunday 14th at around 2:30. These will be landmark shows for Thimblerig Circus, and you shouldn’t miss out!

Updates soon!
